What Evidence Actually Wins an Awazon Market Dispute

What actually matters in a dispute

The panel is three people, not an algorithm. They read your case and decide based on what is provable. If you claim the item was damaged but have no photo taken within ten minutes of opening the package, the panel will likely side with the vendor. Time is the primary factor here.

Timestamps are king

Screenshots without visible system time are useless. Capture the clock from your OS or use a trusted timestamping service if you are paranoid. For digital goods, record the delivery time and the moment you verified the hash. If the vendor sent the file at 14:02 and you opened it at 14:05, that window protects you.

Video versus chat logs

A continuous video recording of unboxing beats a hundred screenshots. Start recording before you cut the seal. Keep the camera steady. Do not edit the footage. Upload the raw file. Chat logs matter only if they contain explicit promises. "It ships fast" is vague. "I ship today if you pay by noon" is binding. Screenshot the chat interface so the user IDs are visible.

What fails most often is context. You might have a receipt showing payment, but if you bought two items and only one arrived, you need proof that the second item was supposed to be included in that specific transaction. Reference numbers help. The order ID links everything together.

When evidence fails

If you lost the tracking number, you cannot prove non-delivery. If you waited five days to report a quality issue, the panel assumes you accepted the goods as is. The recommended split works because most cases are simple. One party pays, the other receives. When things get messy, missing data kills your chance. Keep records for thirty days after finalization, just in case something surfaces later.
